Hi my name is Donna, I'm 54, I want to relate my Plastic Surgery experience for all interested.
On march 2005 I had a Tummy Tuck (U$ 3,550) and Breast Augmentation (U$ 3,350) procedure done in Brazil with Dr.C, I've heard about his clinic and his work from some friends who've been there for Plastics as well and were very happy with the results. He did an excellent job, I couldn't be happier, Dr. C is very skilled and I will never regret going to Brazil to have Plastics. Due to the economy differences between Brazil and North America , Plastic Surgery is very affordable for middle class Americans. I've did some price research in US before and then I realized that comming to Brazil for Plastics is less expensive, even with the added expense of a plane ticket, hotel and food, the quality of medical care is excellent. If you need more info I'll be glad to answer all your questions about my experience. hugs, Donna M. donnam1112@yahoo.com |

I confess that I am suspicious that these two posts from from Donna and Linn, both of whom reside in South America, represent a marketing ploy, but I am allowing the posts about plastic surgery in Brazil to persist because plastic surgery outside the US can be a viable option for bariatric patients who can't afford the out-of-pocket fees of US-based plastic surgeons.
However, no one should assume that because these posts exist on this forum that MIMIS endorses "Dr. C" as a reasonable option for plastic surgery. Americans seeking plastic surgery or ANY medical care outside the US should investigate that doctor very thoroughly before putting their life in the hands of a doctor with no reputation in the United States, and whose credentials and outcomes cannot be investigated using methods familiar to most north Americans. MIMIS will be happy to recommend plastic surgeons with whom we are familiar. We know nothing about "Dr. C" and cannot recommend him.

Thanks Dr M for giving us more info on these posts, I wasn't sure if it was too good to be true or not. Will definitely take care when choosing a surgeon after all my weight is off.

I am thinking of PS and want to know if it is necessary to have a referral by primary or Dr. M. I actually went to St. Cloud last Monday to see Dr. Shultz. My apron is really ugly and I sure would like to reduce the look of it. I do have a large ugly gallbladder scar running along my torso too. How much might it effect a tummy tuck surgery?
I did go to the meeting with Dr. Satterburg at the Hallett Center recently. Does that work as a referral? (Probably not!)

The issue of whether or not a referral is necessary is usually because it's either required by your insurance company, or required by the doctor you are seeing. As far as I know, the latter situation is not the case with Mid-Sota Plastic Surgery.
Regardless, we'll be happy to provide you with whatever paperwork or referrals that your insurance company or plastic surgeon requests. Just give my office, or Shar, a call and let us know what you need.

I just had a mini-tummy tuck done June 26, 2008 and anticipated a long and difficult recovery. Well, it has been a joy to be done with it. I expected to have a lot of pain but I have rarely used anything but Tylenol PM to help me sleep in the recliner. I do wear the compression garment and fully expected to have a miserable time of it. Not at all so! My muscles did NOT require repair...only skin removal and it was almost 5 pounds worth. I weighed in at 130 the day of surgery and now it varies from day to day from 125 to 130. (Fluid retention) I do have a small vacuum/drain still attached via a tube and it is still actively working. I expected to still eat and then salivate no matter what I ate or drank but the morning after I had no more and none since which had been a constant bother with any meal or drink. Not one instance has occurred so I am wondering if the lower tummy wasn't pressing upward on my stomach to cause all of that and not overfill as one might expect but why would it cease so suddenly? I want to let everyone know that has been a great side benefit. I never could eat early in the morning but now I can eat early without a problem. I do not feel like I am able to overeat now either. Everything seems to be in balance like never before.
This seems that it may be a plus for allowing a tummy tuck just for the purpose of being able to eat without the regurgitation that sometimes occurs. I can't believe it but it has ceased completely and I will let you know if it starts to happen again. I can't think of any other reason for it. If this is common it needs to be documented. I am telling everyone that it is exactly as I have written it here. My husband can attest to it as well.

We encourage patients to consider plastic surgery. Excess skin after a large amount of weight loss can be physically problematic as well as emotionally counterproductive and I can't think of any of our patients that ever regretted plastic surgery after successful weight-loss surgery.
